Campus 2010 Faculty of Law Project works update

Description:
Work commencing 18 January will include:
  • construction of site security fence / hoarding
  • locating site office and workers accommodation
  • placement of environmental controls for stormwater sediment
  • dust and noise controls
  • earthmoving plant diesel / oil spillage protection
  • removal of artefacts shrubs / trees and
  • placement of traffic / pedestrian management controls see access routes.
  • demolition of Edgeworth David Building and Stephen Roberts Lecture Theatre
  • pilling, placement of concrete retaining walls, excavation and drainage.

These works are scheduled for completion by June 2006 to allow the main structural works to commence through to the end of 2007.

Impact:
The University has developed plans to minimise the disruption to the University community while the building program is underway. However, there will be some changes to pedestrian and vehicular access for safety reasons and disruptions as a result of the construction works. The main impacts will be:
  • Removal of access to car parking along Barff Road, with plans underway to relocate these spaces nearby for the short term and for 420 new permanent spaces under the Faculty of Law building
  • Closure of Library Road
  • Restrictions to pedestrian access through Barff Road & Victoria Park
  • Noise from demolition, pilling and concreting works, with mitigation plans in place for effected staff/students
  • Temporary disruptions to traffic on University Avenue as a result of construction vehicles entering and exiting the campus
