Project Management

Description of the service:

The Capital Works Group manage the capital projects on the various campuses for The University of Sydney. Following the identification of a Capital Works project, the initial briefs and project definition plans are completed by Strategic Planning and Review. On receipt of funding approval, Capital works manages the following:

  1. Confirmation of the project definition plan and the development of functional briefs.
  2. Project design and documentation.
  3. The application for development and building approvals.
  4. Tendering and tender assessments.
  5. Construction.
  6. Completion of the comissioning and defect phase including the rectification of defects.
  7. Project completion and handover.
The project manager within the capital works group is the single entity that is responsible for the management, and delivery of a capital works project. The project manager liaises with the client (the University Project User Groups and Project Working Groups) and other service providers, architects and engineering consultant groups and all contractors that are involved as part of the project procurement role for The University of Sydney.
Service Level Agreement:
There is no specific Service Level Agreement in relation to the Capital Works but each project is programmed and delivery dates are agreed with the client user groups.
Availability - Campus:
The services of Project Managers to deliver client’s projects are available for any campus.
Availability - Buildings:
The Project Manager and Capital Works staff work around and within all buildings owned or managed by The University of Sydney.
Availability - Time:
Access to Project Managers is normally available during business hours, Monday to Friday.
Availability - Other:
The Project Managers are normally available on mobile phones in the event of emergencies or other matters which require attention outside of business hours.
Available to:
The University-wide community.
Costs:
The services of Project Managers in the Capital Works Group are available at no cost to the University’s users.
How to access:
The services of a Project Manager would normally be available via the Assistant Director, Campus Planning.
How to use:
Project Managers are appointed on the identification and funding of a project. These services are available as part of any project funded under the Capital Works section of the University’s Capital Plan or for client funded projects.

Q. Is there any fee for the service for user funded projects or Capital Plan projects. A. Not for the project managers services.

Q. Who is responsible in the Capital Works group for my project? A. The Project Manager appointed is responsible for carrying through projects from inspection through to completion.
