Security Bus Service

This free service operates during semester, Monday to Friday, except public holidays, commencing at 4.45pm outside Fisher Library. The final run leaves Fisher at library closing time.

Standing on the bus is not permitted, passengers will only be allowed on if there are seats available.

The timetable and/or route are both subject to review and may change. The timetable is variable during semester breaks and notices will be posted. Please signal driver to stop at designated stops which appear on timetable.

Security Bus Services from 19 November 2007 to 29 February 2008, including provision for Summer School needs, are:

Monday 19 November - Friday 21 December 2007 inclusive
Wednesday 2 January - Friday 29 February 2008 inclusive

Morning service: Mon to Fri
The bus first departs Shepherd St carpark at 7am and takes about 10 - 15 minutes to complete the circuit back to Shepherd St. The last morning bus departs Shepherd St carpark at 10.30am (except for public holidays) – see route details below.

Afternoon services: Mon to Fri
One bus 4.30pm to 9.30pm Mon to Fri (except for public holidays) and
One bus 4.30pm to 7.15pm Mon to Fri (except for public holidays) – see route details below.

Note: There is no security bus service during the University Christmas shut down period (Saturday 22 December to Tuesday 1 January inclusive).

From Monday 19 November 2007, the bus will follow the new route to facilitate the closure of University Place leading into Manning Road.

The bus will no longer pick up passengers from Fisher Library - this stop has moved 150 metres to the Manning St carpark, on the corner of Manning and Fisher Roads.

Amended route
The bus will depart from Shepherd Street carpark,
then go up Shepherd Street to Abercrombie Street,
then turn into Codrington Street / Butlin Avenue,
then cross City Road.

Stop near Madsen Building
then down Fisher Road turning down Physics Road

Stop at Sports Centre
then along Western Avenue and then up Manning Road

Stop at Griffith Taylor Building
then up to Manning Road Carpark.

Depart from Manning Road Carpark and return to Shepherd Street via same route to start again.

There is no set timetable as the route takes approximately 10 - 15 minutes to complete, depending on passenger loads and traffic. Passengers should wait no more than 15 minutes at any of the stops before a bus arrives.

The Express Shuttle Bus is owned by the University of Sydney Union and runs subject to availability.

The Express runs between 4.30pm and 6.10pm, Monday to Friday. There is an approximate 15 minute turnaround, depending on traffic. Dependent upon need, each 3rd-4th run will be for Darlington Campus only. The last run commences from Fisher Library at approximately 6.10pm.

The mini buses utilised for Security Bus Services are available for public hire. Security Services utilise two mini buses to provide the Security Bus Services described on this website. The two University owned mini buses seats 24 (25 including the driver). These buses are available for public hire but must be hired with our driver.

We also have a 12 seater; this bus may be hired on the basis of the hirer providing a driver with a refundable bond required. Naturally the driver must have appropriate license Class C or we can supply a driver at a cost.

The normal conditions encountered when hiring vehicles apply and are fully explained in a document provided upon enquiry.

The primary function of the University owned bus is the provision of the Security Bus Services indicated in the timetables shown on this website. Bus hire always proceeds with consideration to that primary function.

The second bus is owned by the University of Sydney Union and is managed by Security Services for the provision of the Security Bus Services only. This bus is also available for public hire by arrangement with the Union.
