Buisness Information Systems Projects
Projects featuring in this section are all based in one way or another on the Total Infrastructure & Facilities Management (TIFM) system ARCHIBUS and the AutoCAD.
ARCHIBUS and AutoCAD at The University of Sydney
After a number of reviews and name changes in the early 1990s, to the administrative unit currently known as CIS , AutoCAD and ARCHIBUS were implemented and supported by subsequent reviews as ‘a good initiative’ in terms of achieving a comprehensive Business Management Information System. AutoCAD was introduced in 1994 to start documenting architectural floor plans for all University buildings. The Space Management module in ARCHIBUS was then introduced in early 1997. Since then, a number of ARCHIBUS standard and custom built modules were deployed.
ARCHIBUS is an open TIFM program, which is a fusion of a relational database, CAD, graphics and spreadsheet application features. As a Multi-Modular TIFM system, ARCHIBUS comprises a suite of a fully integrated, end-to-end applications that address all aspects of property, facilities, and infrastructure management. Thus allowing users to follow the asset and facilities management methods from start to finish within one integrated environment. It’s open system architecture enables easy data exchange with other information repositories and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft/JD Edwards, and Microsoft.
AutoCAD Initially a general-purpose 2D drafting program, has evolved into a family of products which provide a platform for 2D and 3D CAD. Today, it is used by civil engineers, land developers, architects, mechanical engineers, interior designers and other design professionals. AutoCAD's native file format, AutoCAD DWG, and to a lesser extent, its interchange file format, DXF, have become de facto standards for interchange of 2D CAD data. In 2006, Autodesk estimated the number of active DWG files to be in excess of one billion.
