The future - 2020 and beyond

Students in outdoor lecture

The essential nature of universities across the world is changing rapidly with the emergence of new learning and teaching methods, the increase in cross-disciplinary research and changing student, staff, community and business partner expectations.

To ensure the University of Sydney reaches and attains its 1:5:40 ambition we have extended our vision for the campus out to the year 2020 when the University will celebrate its 175th anniversary.

A number of new projects are already planned to follow the completion of Campus 2010 and will continue with the introduction of world-class infrastructure and facilities across the University:

  • Sydney Institutes of Health and Medical Research Building (SIHMR)
  • Economics and Business precinct
  • Ross Street redevelopment
  • Brain & Mind Research Institute/ Hospital development
  • Royal North Shore Hospital - Research and Education Building
  • Nepean Hospital - Multidisciplinary Education and Research Building

The existing buildings have not been forgotten either. In 2006 a comprehensive assessment of the condition of all current campus buildings was completed. This allowed the development of a comprehensive repairs and maintenance plan and a Capital Upgrade Program, launched in early 2007 which covers:

  • General teaching space
  • Laboratories
  • Lifts
  • Audio-visual infrastructure
  • Buildings - focusing on the external fabric of buildings, major internal public areas and upgraded infrastructure.
