The impact

The sunny plaza in front of the Fisher library will be completely redeveloped. Lawns, plazas and ample seating will be provided and the historic Fig tree will continue to provide shade. The ramp entrance to the library will be enlarged to fit better with the building entrance.

A key part of Sydney University life, the Fisher Library will be fully integrated between the Quadrangle and Eastern Avenue.

The works

The area in front of the Fisher Library (shown in dark yellow on the map) will be excavated and completely re-developed to integrate the library into the new Eastern Avenue Boulevard.

The impact

For pedestrians
Pedestrian and disabled access to the library will be maintained at all times with temporary walkways and ramp access.

This map shows the safe pedestrian routes around Fisher Library from 21 November 2007 to 4 March 2008. Pedestrian paths are shown in orange, disabled access is shown by blue arrows, the construction site is shown in green.

Eastern Avenue Boulevard will be the main thoroughfare for pedestrians travelling between Fisher Library and City Road or Darlington.

For the security bus stop
The security bus stop on University Place outside Fisher Library will close during the construction. The bus stop will move to the Manning Road carpark, on the corner of Manning and Fisher Roads (about 150 metres from the current stop) while construction is underway.

For the coffee cart
The coffee cart, which stands in the existing Fisher Library forecourt, will close during the construction period. You will be able to buy coffee from the coffee cart located by the water feature between the Eastern Avenue auditorium and the Carslaw building. This cart will be open throughout the summer break.

For vehicles
- University Place will be closed between University Avenue and Eastern Avenue.
- Manning Road will be closed between Eastern Avenue and Fisher Road.

Drivers will not be able to turn left from University Avenue onto University Place. To park in front of the Quadrangle, drivers will need to turn right from University Avenue into University Place and follow the road around to the front of the Quadrangle.

Please note: While the construction work is in progress, the parts of University Place open to traffic will continue to be a two way street. Pedestrians will be sharing this space too, so we ask that drivers and pedestrians take extra care around this area.

Disabled parking
The two disabled parking spaces in front of the Fisher Library will move.

The two parks will be relocated next to the construction fence, on University Place, just off University Avenue.

These spaces will be available from Tuesday 20 November 2007.

For deliveries
Loading zones will continue to be available at the back of the Library. Map of building access points

Emergency vehicles will continue to have access to the Library via University Place, Fisher Road and Barff Road.
