Andersen Stuart Building

Andersen Stuart building c1950

"Like a city, a university is never complete. The inorexible forces for expansion... inevitably lead to significant changes in the built environment."

"At the outset, the University proved to be a great patron of architecture... Massive post-war growth and the urgent need for lecture and office space led to an era of functionalist, often mediocre, even pedestrian buildings in the second half of the twentieth century.

At the turn of the twenty-first century the University once again reclaimed its rightful and historic role as one of Sydney's major and most important patrons of architecture. This can be seen in the design and construction of the Eastern Avenue Auditorium, the School of Information Technologies, the new Law School and the Sydney Central building."

"The finest buildings of the University are still to be imagined and created."
