City Road entrance to Camperdown campus - work commencing 14 April 2008

Work on and around the City Road entrance to Camperdown campus is starting on Monday 14 April 2008 and is due to be completed in August 2008. The end of Eastern Avenue boulevard is being transformed into an open plaza at City Road surrounded by new gardens and the existing vehicle entrance.

The work represents the final stage of the Camperdown Public Domain Project, part of the Campus 2010 program. The completion of the Project see open spaces, lawns, gardens and walkways that have been eroded away over the past few decades returned to Camperdown campus. The Project will also create safer, wheelchair accessible pedestrian thoroughfares, provide more recreational areas and integrate the University seamlessly into the local area.

The work will be completed in three phases:

  • Phase A (14 April – June 2008) - landscaping of the area between City Road and the Carslaw building.
  • Phase B (June – August 2008) – landscaping of the area in front of the Madsen Building and City Road vehicle entrance.
  • Phase C (June –August 2008) – landscaping of the area along the side of the City Road end of Fisher Road. Phase C work will be carried out in conjunction with Phase 5B.

Impact of the work:

  • Vehicle access to the University via the City Road entrance to Fisher Road will be unaffected.
  • There will be no parking available in front of the Madsen Building from 14 April 2008. Designated disabled parking and loading zones will be available in the car park between the Gatekeeper’s Lodge and the Madsen building.
  • Temporary walkways will provide pedestrian access from City Road through the work site to Eastern Avenue during Phase 5A and from Eastern Avenue to the Madsen building during Phase 5B. The new footbridge across City Road will remain open throughout the work.
